Things to do in Aswan and Abu Simbel

Aswan and Abu Simbel are not a Cairo day trip.

There is no road excursion that gets you there and back in a day: the only practical links from Cairo are a short internal flight or an overnight sleeper train, and Abu Simbel sits further south again, past Aswan, which usually means an extra internal flight, a road transfer, or an organised convoy once you arrive.

Most visitors treat the two as a multi-day extension tacked onto a Cairo and Giza base, or fold them into a Nile cruise that links Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel over several nights. Expect to book flights or a sleeper cabin, pack for at least one night away, and plan around a fixed departure rather than a flexible morning start from your hotel.
