Things to do in Luxor
Luxor is not a day trip from Cairo: you reach it by a roughly one-hour domestic flight or an overnight sleeper train, never by road in a single day, which is worth knowing before you book anything.
Most visitors treat it as a multi-day extension or a stop on a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, with two or three nights giving enough time to see the west bank without rushing.
One thing Luxor has that Cairo and Giza do not: hot-air balloon flights, which lift off at dawn over the west bank of Luxor and are best booked the evening before through GetYourGuide or Viator, weather permitting.
