Things to do in Wadi Natrun

Wadi Natrun sits on the desert road between Cairo and Alexandria, and its Coptic monasteries make the most sense as a stop on that route rather than a standalone trip from a Cairo hotel.

Several monasteries here trace back to the 4th century, among the oldest in the world still in active use, and visits typically run an hour or two on site with modest dress required and headscarves for women.

There is no fixed direct drive time for Wadi Natrun alone from Cairo in this guide, since it is normally combined with an onward leg toward Alexandria (about 3 hours by desert road) rather than booked as its own return journey. Plan it as a break in the day, not the whole day.
